Below is an excerpt from the interview:
A. Grigoryan: “Armenia acquired an unprecedented amount of weapons in 2019, and we have great investments in this area, with agreements to acquire weapons and even large-scale new weapons. 2019 has been a year of unprecedented weapons acquisition, and we have also set to closing that page of that common philosophy of usin weaponsof 1980s. Of course, we have not yet reached this point to close this page completely, but I am convinced that in the coming years we will fully close the important point.
As for relations, I think macro-level is very good and it was very good in macro-level in 2019. Let me just say one indicator: 2017 trade turnover between Russia and Armenia was $ 1.7 billion and in the first 9 months of 2019 it was just over $ 1.7 billion. That is to say, we have closed the so-called 5th anniversary (Soviet vocubalary) of the so-called Soviet vocabulary in three years, figuratively speaking, in three years or a little more. In this respect I can say there were some problems in the macro-level as well as in the micro-level which were the result of media and Fakenews, because by October all Armenian media was speaking that Vladimir Putin, for example, will not have a visit to Armenia.As spoken Armenia didn’t get armament, but it turns out that by 2019 we had acquired an unprecedented amount of weapons.
In many cases it is difficult when you are negotiating or the weapon is on the way, you are not going to announce it, in many cases we are not even talking about the quantity. Since the announcement of the TORs, we have not said anything about the TOR, and we have also recently acquired other new weapons from Russia during the negotiations. In this regard, it is very important that the dynamics of the developments in Armenia we can fix as progress and at the beginning of the year, if there were any problems, then at the end of the year we can fix that the Armenian-Russian relations from May 2018 are really good.
