Congratulatory Message of the Security Council Secretary on the Day of Victory, and the Shushi Liberation Day

09 / 05 / 2020

Dear compatriots,
Congratulations on the triple holiday of the Victory Day, Shushi Liberation Day and the day of establishing the Artsakh Defense Army, which we are celebrating today under the circumstances dictated by the pandemic.

In the Artsakh war, we have reconceived the sense of universal victory over the fascism, consolidating peace as a universal value, the struggle against violence as imperative, and victory as an integral part of our culture.

We, as a people who survived the Genocide, have been able to regain our role, to have made our great contribution to the fight against the universal evil during World War II, and then to win a brilliant victory in the Artsakh war.

We managed to liberate Shushi 28 years ago, breaking the peace establishment process. Operation “Wedding in the Mountains” is one of the brightest examples of our military thinking, fighting and winning spirit, believing in our own abilities and using them effectively.

With its military-political, historical significance, brilliant strategic scenario and its implementation, the operation of liberating Shushi gave us such a charge of spirit without which further victories would not have been possible.

Today, in conditions of independence and democracy, we must continue to renew the sense of our victorious past, making our security more resilient, developing a powerful toolkit based on human potential, thus being always ready to establish peace and create new victories.

I bow to the memory of the heroes who fell defending the homeland.
