Statement of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia
01 / 03 / 2021
The Security Council of the Republic of Armenia, being the body defining the main directions of the defense policy, strongly condemns all attempts to involve the Armed Forces in the political process.
The Constitution of the Republic of Armenia provides the inadmissibility of the involvement of the Armed Forces in political processes and the fact of the latter being under civilian control.
According to the law, the proposal to appoint or dismiss the Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces, as a person holding the highest military position, is based on the discretion of the Head of the Government.
Under the RA Constitution, the President of the Republic, as the most important institution for the observance of the Constitution, has discretionary alternative powers in the field of the armed forces to appoint and dismiss the highest command personnel of the armed forces and other forces.
The Security Council invites the President of the Republic to satisfy the proposal of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia on the dismissal of the Chief of the General Staff and sign the corresponding decree.
