25 / 05 / 2021
Today, the Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan answered Petros Ghazaryan’s questions on the Public TV, referring to the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the recent tension in this regard.
Speaking about the measures taken by the CSTO on this issue, Armen Grigoryan noted that the CSTO instruments are not exhausted yet and that Armenia expects the launch of the necessary mechanisms by the CSTO for a rapid and complete settlement of the issue. The Secretary emphasized that Armenia had applied to the CSTO under article 2 of the Collective Security Treaty, but the recent tensions on the border and today’s fact of the death of a serviceman from the Armenian side completely changes the picture. A situation may arise when Armenia will be forced to apply to the CSTO under Article 4 of the Collective Security Treaty, which provides for a completely different set of tools for mutual assistance to a member state.
Armen Grigoryan also emphasized, that the withdrawal of the Azerbajiani armed forces from the sovereign territory of Armenia should not be interconnected with any other issue.
