01 / 08 / 2020

The Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan spoke about the events in Tavush, the government crisis in Azerbaijan, the solid government system in Armenia, the regional developments and other security issues on the radio “Liberty.”

Speaking about the events in Tavush, Turkey and the regional developments the Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan said; “As I mentioned, Turkey's more active behaviour is connected with Azerbaijan's failures. Turkey, seeing that Azerbaijan is not able to control the situation on its own, is trying to intervene. I think this is a serious threat to the region. This is also a challenge to the regional security architecture, because for many years the regional security architecture has looked the way, which now is being tried to be changed with the intervention of Turkey. We are fully prepared to take steps to minimize this. We also have a lot of work to do in this direction with our strategic ally Russia to prevent such changes in the region.”

Referring to the Azerbaijan’s aggression, the Security Council Secretary said; “We have regularly been explaining both our international partners and Azerbaijan not to try to measure our patience, and not to try to solve the problem by military means. If the Republic of Armenia sees that there are threats to its security, it will take steps to neutralize all of them. We will maintain the security of any citizen of the Republic of Armenia, we will defend it, and will not allow any steps to be taken to reduce that security even insignificantly. Azerbaijan did not understand this regularly, and was trying to measure our patience. In this regard, I think, it was a good lesson for Azerbaijan to try to come back to the negotiation process, because in my opinion the seven points proposed by the Prime Minister are very effective to solve he issue peacefully. Azerbaijan has rightly stated those seven points are unacceptable for it, but I think that in time it will return to those seven points, because there is no alternative to them.”
