Arthur Baghdasaryan: “The Strategic Defense Review Process is an effective mechanism for ensuring military security of Armenia”

Today, under the co-chairmanship of the Secretary of the National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan and Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan, a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission coordinating the work on the strategic review of the defense of Armenia was held.
In his speech the Secretary of the National Security Service noted that the Strategic Defense Review process as an effective mechanism for the formation of modern Armed Forces, neutralizing military threats and ensuring military security is constantly in the center of attention of the National Security Council of Armenia.
“As a result of the nearly four-month work of the Interdepartmental Coordinating Commission for Strategic Review of the Defense of Armenia and the authorities concerned, it became possible to promptly develop documents on the assessment of the situation and threats to the RA security for submission to the RA President for approval. I should note that the adoption of this document is of strategic importance, moreover, on the basis of this document, the NSS Staff should start developing a number of strategic documents of fundamental importance, established by the NSS work plan for 2014 and aimed at strengthening the regulatory and methodological framework for ensuring national security. In particular: 1. Development of scenarios for the development of the military-political situation, options for action on them in accordance with the assessment of the military-political situation in the region. 2. Development of a unified algorithm for making military-political decisions, “- said Arthur Baghdasaryan, adding that these two issues are to be discussed in the National Security Council this year.
At the end of his speech, Arthur Baghdasaryan emphasized: “At the second stage of the Strategic Defense Review, we must consolidate the achievements of the previous stage, ensure a proportionate development of the Armed Forces, create real guarantees for the implementation of effective policies aimed at increasing military capabilities, increasing the level of protection of the state and the population, increasing the combat readiness and effectiveness of the Armed Forces”.
