Speech of the SC Secretary Armen Grigoryan at the Armenian Embassy in Russia

Dear Compatriots,

Representatives of foreign delegations, Your Excellency Mr. Ambassador,

I am extremely glad to be here today. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly. This is my first working visit to the Russian Federation as SC Secretary. Today before being received here I met SC Secretary of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev, my Russian colleague and we discussed a number of problems that were on the agenda. I can state that our meeting passed in a warm and constructive atmosphere.

Owing to the constructive bias of my people we have had numerous achievements in the course of our history. We were able not only to create a sovereign state but we claimed to defend the Armenians of Artsakh as well. Unfortunately, having won a glorious victory at the front of Artsakh we failed to build the state of our dreams.

Dear audience, I am absolutely sure that we are witnessing the most decisive period in Armenia’s modern history. We have been given u unique opportunity to build a powerful, well-developed and prosperous country that takes care not only of its citizens, but our compatriots in Diaspora as well.

It is worth mentioning that the Armenian people, in the course of its history, having overcome numerous hardships, has got a peculiar immunity enabling, at the most difficult moments, to find the most unique solutions for survival and development. Very often, when rational reasoning said we were going to lose everything, the people found an unexpected solution. Sardarapat and Artsakh are such solutions.

The velvet revolution of this year, in April, is a unique example. The Armenian people, scattered all over the world, having accumulated mankind's experience and knowledge, succeeded in organising a political process, unique in its kind, that put Armenia on a new way of development. We were able to concentrate the wisdom of Gandi, Dostoevsky, Russo and making use of the Armenians' age-old experience we did the impossible the name of which is velvet revolution.

I am sure you share the opinion that the Armenian people need a strong and sovereign state. For this there exist all the prerequisites. We ought to bring together all our strength and abilities to build a powerful and stable country. For a long time we have perceived Armenians divided into three parts, and our motto has been Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora. I suggest replacing it with a new motto – Armenian people-Armenian statehood-Armenian interests. This is what ought to unite and empower us. We have all the prerequisites to realize this. Provided we are united, we are ready to face any challenges. As a result we will make our position stronger, in this global world, the world will hear the distinct, loud voice of Armenian statehood.

New Armenia is a state where everybody can realize their ambitions. There is one single value at the base of our ideology, it is man. We consider our basic value to be man. This is why I state that the Armenian people’s national ideology is based on the idea of powerful, sovereign and well-developed Armenia supported by each individual.

Each of us ought to dedicate himself to the noble cause of strengthening Armenian statehood. We ought to build the Motherland that was the dream of Tigran the Great, King Pap, Victor Hambardzumyan, Charles Aznavour, Monte.
