The session of summarizing the results of the “Channel-Caucasus” local anti-drug operation conducting in Armenia took place. Secretary of the National Security Council Artur Baghdasaryan participated in the session and made a welcoming speech.

RA Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan, CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha, Director of the Federal Service on Control of Drug Trafficking Victor Ivanov participated in the session.

In his speech, NSC Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan particularly mentioned: "Within the framework of the CSTO, every year we carry out a "Channel"event aimed at combating illegal drug trafficking through joint efforts. We have accumulated a lot of experience in this direction and we have positive results. The peculiarity of today's anti-drug activity lies in the fact that it has a targeted, local character and its International Coordination Headquarters is located in Yerevan. "

Artur Baghdasaryan noted that the Armenian Police have carried out large-scale work which was summed up at the session of the interdepartmental commission headed by the NSC Secretary on September 18. The commission, which engages in the fight against illegal drug trafficking, has considerably raised the efficiency of state agencies’ activities in this area.

Artur Baghdasaryan mentioned in his speech that in the fight against illegal drug trafficking Armenia has made progress in the recent period. “Although there are still many problems that need solution, we can say that Armenia does not manufacture drugs, it is not a transit country for drug trafficking and the level of drug use is low in the country”.

Artur Baghdasaryan highlighted the importance of the cooperation of the respective state agencies in the CSTO member states, which can make the fight against the illicit drug trafficking more effective. Implementation of such activities as “Channel-Caucasus” enables us to expand cooperation in this field, making it more productive and systematic. "
