Today, Secretary of the National Security Council Artur Baghdasaryan received a delegation headed by Mohamed Kamel Rezag Bara, the Secretary for Coordinating the Activities of the Security Council of Algeria and Presidential Adviser on Counter-Terrorism.
Following their private talk, an extended-format meeting was held, after which a joint protocol was signed outlining the main areas of the cooperation in about 10 areas.
In his speech, Artur Baghdasaryan mentioned in particular: “This visit will open a new page in the Armenian-Algerian relations, there is a potential that must be used. Algeria is a friendly country for Armenia. Algeria shares Armenia’s formal approach on numerous foreign policy directions. And during this visit we reached an agreement on deepening our cooperation. First of all, there will be a mechanism for consultation on the security issues. Steps will be taken to deepen the cooperation in the field of defense, to consolidate our efforts in the fight against terrorism, cyber-terrorism, illegal drug trafficking, practical steps will be taken to deepen the economic relations. I think there is really potential and we need to combine that potential to have results. We also talked about deepening our cooperation in various areas, including police, defense, special services, emergency situations and discussed issues related to the investments. The agenda is quite rich and I believe we will not wait long for the results.
Mohamed Kamel Rezag Bara first thanked Artur Baghdasaryan for the invitation and for organizing it on a high level, then noted: “Warm and productive talks were held during my visit. We discussed matters of mutual interest. We understood as to what opportunities there are toward coordinating relations between the two countries”.
Mohamed Kamel Rezag Bara noted again that Algeria stands ready to deepen collaboration with Armenia and the agreements that are reached will serve toward the implementation of this objective.
Mohamed Kamel Rezag Bara is the first senior Algerian official to have paid a visit to Armenia.
