Armenia will host CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force exercises in 2012

NSC Secretary Arthur Baghdasaryan received Valery Semerikov, Deputy Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
During the meeting the parties discussed the process of implementation of the agreements reached during the informal meeting of the CSTO member states held in Astana on August 12, 2011. For that purpose three sectional sessions will be held in Moscow on October 17 for consultations and discussions of Deputy Secretaries of the Security Councils, Deputy Foreign Ministers and Defense Ministers according to their activity directions.
The parties also discussed the results of the recurrent sitting of the CSTO Interstate Commission on Military-Economic Cooperation held in the Kyrgyz Republic on October 6. A wide range of issues related to the promotion of interstate military-economic cooperation were discussed during the meeting.
During the meeting an agreement was reached to organize a workshop on the development of Armenian-Russian military-technical cooperation in Yerevan in November.
Issues related to the organization of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force exercise to be held in the territory of the Republic of Armenia in 2012 were also discussed. W. Semerikov noted that the CSTO Secretariat is ready to assist the Armenian side in organizing the exercise, sending necessary staff to Armenia if necessary. Artur Baghdasaryan emphasized the importance of full involvement of all components of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces - military contingents, police, national security, emergency departments, in order to provide a more efficient process of training exercises. The exercise is included in the 2012 work plans and will be organized as part of the events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty.
