
Law-enforcement area reforms to continue

The Secretary of the National Security Council Artur Baghdasaryan received a delegation led by OSCE Senior Police Adviser Knut Dreyer.
Head of OSCE Yerevan Office Sergey Kapinos was also present at the meeting.
The parties discussed issues related to police area reforms in Armenia. Artur Baghdasaryan informed the guests that a broad reform program is currently being implemented in the police system in Armenia in line with the RA-EU 2009-2011 action plan.
The interlocutors shared the opinion that the reforms would be more effective if they covered the whole law-enforcement system. The assistance of international organizations was said to be of great importance, and the role of the OSCE was particularly mentioned in this respect.
Artur Baghdasaryan also said that a reforms program will be implemented in the procuracy system also; a justice academy will be established in Armenia which will play an important role in recruitment and training of specialists.
Both parties underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation with the OSCE in the intended reforms process.
