
EU-funded concrete programs to be implemented in Armenia

NSC Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan today received the delegation led by the head of the European Policy Department of the European Commission’s Office of Support and Cooperation of Sarah Rinaldi.
The meeting was also attended by the head of European Commission Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Raul de Lutsenberger.
The interlocutors discussed issues related to financing recovery works for Yerevan Metro and water supply system of Armenian towns through European Neighbourhood Policy “Neighbourhood Investment Facility” project. According to the agreement reached, the parties will contribute to uninterrupted functioning of this 36.8 million euro project and which will result in an improved water supply system in small towns of 7 regions of Armenia, better water cleaning and drainage infrastructures, and Yerevan Metro will be modernized. In case of successful process of the program the European side expressed willingness to increase financing which includes mostly non-returnable support through special grants.
The two sides attached value to deepening cooperation with the European Investment Bank, EBRD and European Council development banks. Parties reached agreements in relation to assistance for small and medium business in Armenia, involvement in the decontamination activities of Nubarashen pesticide burial ground as well as drafting and implementing concrete projects with the EU in other spheres. As regards these and other issues, a seminar-discussion will be organized with the EU in December attended by the representatives of ministries and agencies involved in the interagency commission coordinating Armenia’s cooperation with the EU.
