Modern energy security system to be introduced in Armenia

06 / 05 / 2010

The working group on the development of energy security concept convened its first sitting, chaired by NSC Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan.

The development of the concept goes in line with Armenia’s “National Security Strategy.”
Highlighting the importance of energy security as one of the components of our national security Artur Baghdasaryan said the key task of the energy security concept was to ensure adequate energy sufficiency level in Armenia in both short-term and long-term prospects.
“Today, energy development issues are in a reliable state, and Armenia has grounds not only to ensure energy sufficiency for our country but also for energy export which is of key importance for the economy of our country. The study of European practice illustrates that it develops in two directions – energy development strategic programs and introduction of efficient regimes of energy production. We must be able to invest a modern energy security system in our country based on a study of the best international practice,” Artur Baghdasaryan said.
At the sitting, the participants agreed to finalize the elaboration of concept provisions within one month and to submit the document for approval by the end of October.
