Reforms in the rescue system; Armenian citizens need to be protected more effectively

20 / 04 / 2010

Wide-scale reforms will be implemented in the rescue system of Armenia. The first step is indeed the elaboration of the draft of the reforms concept.

The interagency commission on issues related to rescue system reforms concept convened its first sitting chaired by the NSC Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan.
Highlighting the importance of reforms in the rescue system, Artur Baghdasaryan said each country has a mission to ensure safety and security of its citizens. The rescue system reforms are of strategic importance in this regard.
“27 cases of collapse and more than 400 fire cases have been registered only this year which resulted in the death of 3 people, 7 people got different types of injuries, and the economic damage to the citizens and legal entities reached millions. Indeed, the rescue service operatively reacted in these cases, but our overall aim is to establish such a system of operative support and assistance which is typical of developed countries. We expect large-scale reforms in the rescue service system, and I am convinced that if they are implemented effectively we will be able to more effectively protect our citizens and ensure their safety. This is one of the most important constituents of the security of our country,” Artur Baghdasaryan said. He also noted that the initiative of reforming the rescue system is conditioned by the international commitments of our country.
It was agreed at the sitting to submit the draft of the concept for approval within 3 months’ time.
