The interagency commission coordinating the implementation of activities under the framework of the CSTO held its next sitting chaired by the NSC Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan.
Summarizing Armenia’s activities in the framework of the CSTO in 2009, Artur Baghdasaryan said Armenia had been quite active, and a number of achievements had been registered as announced also by the CSTO Secretary General. During Armenia’s presidency the CSTO rapid reaction subdivisions were formed, first military exercises were held in Kazakhstan, attended by relevant subdivisions of the Ministry of Defence of Armenia.
The Secretary of the National Security Council highlighted also the importance of the decision reached on an issue which was being discussed for almost 10 years. According to this political decision, aggression against any of the CSTO Member States is regarded as aggression against the CSTO. This fact is of exceptional importance in terms of security for Armenia, therefore further efforts must be taken to improve the normative-legal base and deepen military political cooperation in the framework of the CSTO. The third important achievement is the formation of a unified information security system in the CSTO frames. As a result, so called “Proxy” special functions are being held and produce quite good results.
Artur Baghdasaryan also called attention to 2010 key issues, notably intensification of military-technical and military-industrial cooperation between the CSTO Member States, active participation in “Canal”, “Nelegal” and “Proxy” events.
At the sitting, the representatives of the Ministries of Defence, Foreign Affairs and Emergency Situations, Police and National Security Service presented reports on the activities implemented under the framework of the CSTO in 2009.
