Food security concept to be developed

Food security concept will be developed in Armenia in line with the National Security Strategy.The sitting of the interagency working group on food security concept development was chaired today by the NSC Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan.

According to a decision of the National Security Council and by the order of the President of the Republic the concept has to be developed and approved at the National Security Council during the first half of 2010.
Highlighting the exceptional importance of food security, Artur Baghdasaryan said addressing food security and food sufficiency issues means enhancing competitiveness in agricultural field and continuous implementation of institutional reforms. It is necessary to elaborate a concept and implement activities which would help solve food sufficiency and food security issues in our everyday life as well as in emergency or crisis situations. It has to be a document that will enhance the level of food sufficiency and security in Armenia and help to establish such a stable system which will contribute to local production, agricultural products in particular, minimizing import and raising the level of food sufficiency of our country.
