
Border security level in Armenia to be enhanced

The working group responsible for developing recommendations for modernization and re-equipment of border infrastructures and ensuring high level of border security in Armenia held its recurrent sitting today chaired by the NSC Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan.
At the sitting the state border assessment report for Armenia was approved. Highlighting the importance of border security and modernization of border infrastructures, Artur Baghdasaryan said Armenian border infrastructures should be harmonized with international standards. Starting from 2010, the Integrated Border Management program will be launched, which will be implemented through EU funding. About 2 million USD is earmarked for Armenia for modernizing two border crossing points between Armenia and Georgia.
The working group will develop Border Security Strategy for Armenia until May, 2010, which will be submitted to the National Security Council for approval according to the established procedure.
