
Civil defense national concept to be developed

Civil defense national concept will be developed pursuant to Armenia’s national security strategy and Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan.
It was agreed at today’s sitting of the respective interagency working group to submit the concept to the National Security Council for approval in May, 2010. Chairman of the meeting, NSC Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan highlighted the importance of establishing a civil defense system in line with contemporary standards as a key element in the country’s national security. He also said the adoption of the concept is of applied importance for implementing strategic reforms in the civil defense sphere and addressing new threats.
The adoption of the concept assumes assessment of current state of the civil defense, strengthening of capabilities in the field of crisis management. A Crisis Management regional centre will be established in Yerevan with regional subdivisions in the future.
