
Enhance the RA Police system in line with EU Standards

Reforms in line with European standards will be implemented in the RA Police system.
Today, the inter-agency working group on Police reforms at a sitting, chaired by NSC Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan, agreed to submit the reforms program for approval within four months’ time.
Artur Oiskyan, Deputy Chief of Police noted that the reforms assume development of the Police structure, further enhancement of atmosphere of trust between the police and the public, legal and other practical amendments and public involvement in the protection of public order and in the fight against crime.
Artur Baghdasaryan highlighted the importance of the Police reforms and underlined the necessity of harmonization of respective legislation with European standards, implementation of institutional reforms in the Police system; notably representation of a new passport system based on biometrical indicators, intensification of fight against illegal arms and illicit drugs and the investment of a new educational system for specialization and training of the personnel in conformity with European standards.
The working group consists of not only interested Armenian agencies but also the representatives of the EU and OSCE.
