Armenia-EU subcommittee on justice, freedom and security issues to be established

NSC Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan received today the delegation led by Luigi Soreca, Head of External Relations and Enlargement Unit, Directorate-Generale for Justice, Freedom and Security of the European Commission. Ambassador Raul de Lutsenberger, Head of European Commission Delegation in Armenia was present at the meeting.

The interlocutors discussed issues in relation to the establishment of a subcommittee for justice, freedom and security. Armenia will be the forth country to set up a similar subcommittee, which will deepen dialogue and enhance cooperation with EU on justice, freedom and security issues.
Artur Baghdasaryan proposed to develop a working plan for the committee which would include a respective action plan.
The parties discussed the opportunities of providing European Commission technical and expert support in the process of formation and operation of the subcommittee and highlighted the importance of establishing a simplified visa system with the EU member-states.
At the meeting reference was made to Armenia-EU cooperation in the framework of “Eastern Partnership”. The parties positively assessed the current level of Armenia-EU cooperation.
