Judicial reforms will further continue

11 / 10 / 2008

After the National Security Council meeting NSC Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan had a briefing with the journalists.

“We had an intense discussion in relation to further judicial reforms. Enhancement of public confidence in the system and easy access to justice yet remain prior issues. Public discontent is fair and justified taking into consideration the fact that only the advocates with special certificate can attend the court of appeal, and they are rarely available for an ordinary citizen,” Artur Baghdasaryan said. He noted that the main directions of further reforms had been approved at the sitting. “You will soon see discussions in different specialized auditoriums on judicial reforms aimed at further enhancing public confidence in the judiciary which assumes effective reforms in the legislative, institutional and trial procedures. The public will see the benefits of the judicial reforms in the nearest future. These reforms are planned under Armenia-EU cooperation program also.”
With a view to “Roubezh-2008” military exercise held in Armenia in the framework of the CSTO, Artur Baghdasaryan said the exercise, attended by the representatives of 40 public administration structures, was positively assessed and some organizational gaps were revealed at the meeting.
“Extensive efforts should be taken for preparation of conscription and civil defence reforms,” NSC Secretary said.
In addition, Artur Baghdasaryan informed the journalists that an interagency commission on defence strategic review had been established by the decree of the President which will be responsible for the reforms in that area
