A call took place between Armen Grigoryan and Nikolai Patrushev, the Secretaries of Security Councils of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation respectively.
The central issue was the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The parties exchanged views and discussed possible solutions to the problem.
Initially, Armen Grigoryan presented the situation and stressed that Armenia views this as an encroachment on Armenia’s sovereign territory by Azerbaijan, which is unacceptable for Armenia. Therefore, the Azerbaijani armed units should leave those territories and return to their initial positions.
In his speech, Secretary Grigoryan also emphasized that the claims of the Azerbaijani side are unfounded. There are maps available from the Soviet period, which confirm that those territories belong to Armenia.
Regarding Armenia's application to the CSTO, Armen Grigoryan underscored the possibility of launching necessary mechanisms within the CSTO to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
In his turn, Nikolai Patrushev praised the Armenian side for showing restraint. He emphasized the importance of launching all possible diplomatic efforts to find a solution and added that the Russian side is working intensively at all levels for a speedy settlement of the issue.
